Classic grid based strategy
The game's combat phases take place on a two-dimensional square based grid, where each side takes actions for each of it's units and then control switches over to the other side. Units level up with experience earned from battle or through achieving bonus objectives. Levelling increases unit stats, which is required to remain effective against enemy units throughout the campaign. Units can be equiped with melee weapons, ranged weapons, items and shields which augment their statistics as well as occasionally provide special bonuses against other units. Every move is vitally important, as a units defeat means its permanent removal from the game.
Strategy even on the enemy turn
Choose whether to focus on defense, evasion or counterattacking when attacked. How you play during your enemy's turn is as important as how you play during your own.
Story and gameplay interaction
The contracts you choose influence the power of enemy factions, altering the challenges you face and what endgame scenario you activate.
